Canon Ink

The heart of the PRO-2000 is its 11-color LUCIA PRO ink set, which has been reformulated from the prior generation of Canon printers to deliver a higher Dmax and better gloss uniformity than earlier models. The print head is also wider than the prior model and features anti-clogging technology to reduce maintenance and down time. It also uses Canon’s Chroma Optimizer, the first time it has been used in the company’s 24-inch printers.

In addition to the reformulated ink and more precise print heads, the construction of the printers has also been improved to reduce vibrations that could affect print sharpness. (That said, the thing will still visibly shake as it prints.) You’ll enjoy a maximum resolution of 2400 x 1200 with droplet sizes measuring 4 picoliters.

Workflow enhancements include the use of three L-COA PRO processing chips for faster data crunching and a built-in hard drive so print jobs can be quickly off-loaded from a PC and onto the printer. You can access printer settings via a 3.5-inch color touch screen, and the PRO-2000 supports printing over a wireless network or directly from USB devices.

The PRO-2000 supports three different ink tank sizes, a 160ml cartridge, plus 330ml and 700ml tanks. Cartridges cost $97, $173 and $294 to replace, respectively. Thanks to the use of a sub ink tank, all ink cartridges drain completely before needing a refill.

The printer works with an optional Multifunction Roll System ($800). When used in tandem with the included roll feeder, the Multifunction Roll System lets you load a second roll of media and seamlessly switch between the two. The Multifunction Roll unit will intelligently send a print job to the correct media.
