Support Tree-planting on our National Forests

“Perhaps the most important thing to bear in mind, however, is that the planet continues to lose some 25 million acres to deforestation each year—a very large amount of forest land, the loss of which results in a major contribution to global warming, not to mention the loss of biodiversity and “ecosystem services” that forests provide, such as helping to supply clean water.”

“The good news is that we now think we can reduce net deforestation to zero over the next several years and we have made a lot of progress to reduce the rate of deforestation already. It’s a very ambitious goal but we think it is a feasible one. In particular, we are heartened by the case of Brazil, where they have managed to reduce the rate of deforestation by more than two-thirds over the past six years.”

Doug Boucher

National Forests and Grasslands provide Americans with 193-million spectacular acres of wildlands.

  • 9,126 miles of scenic byways to drive
  • 148,295 miles of trails to hike
  • 4,418 miles of wild and scenic rivers to float
  • 5,107 campgrounds in which to pitch our tents
  • 1,200 boating sites
  • And 328 natural pools to swim in

All this and the chance to see elk and bear, ducks and deer, trout and trees, thousands of species of plants, and billions of stars in a midnight sky.

Managed by the U.S. Forest Service, our National Forests host 170 million visits every year. Visitor spending pumps $13.5 billion into our economy annually, sustaining nearly 223,000 jobs in gateway communities.

These lands are the foundation of America’s outdoor recreation heritage and sustain our way of life. They provide water to 123 million Americans in 3,400 communities, clean our air, store carbon, and provide timber, minerals, oil and gas and other resources for industry and communities.

Without these lands, America would be a very different place…
