‘Eco’ is derived from economic, not ecological. Eco-solvent inks are made of a solvent vehicle, which can be hazardous and needs to be evaporated and carefully controlled. While manufacturers are making improvement in the smell of eco-solvent inks, that doesn’t mean that they are safer. In fact, they still carry the ‘dangerous goods’ logos in the cartridges, indicating the risk of health issues for anyone exposed to them.
So, what does this mean for you? We recommend that you house your eco-solvent, low-solvent or mild-solvent printer in a well ventilated area, and use air scrubbing equipment to clean the air you and your employees are breathing. While there is cost involved in setting up these systems, it is a drop in the bucket compared to what your health is worth.
